Valley West Hospital is a private, not-for-profit, short term, critical access community hospital. In 2011 a facility master plan was conducted to achieve the following goals:
The approach to the master plan required that all decisions were to be made within the context of fiscal responsibility. Considerations were to strike a balance between first costs and long-term costs (identifiable payback), achieve best value options, and balance return-on-investment. Requirements of the project were that future flexibility for site, buildings and designs were essential, optimize operational efficiencies, provide a healing environment based on evidence-based design, enhancing patient safety and incorporating technology. The master plan identified growth zones - horizontal or vertical. Accessibility for visitors, patients and staff was key and the master plan was to be complimentary to the community.
The sixteen week study included multiple master planning methodologies:
The resulting deliverable provided a master planning document of five campus options with associated costs analysis. The organization used this document for guidance on future projects.
