BJC Health Care

Christian Hospital Northeast
Strategic Campus Planning
St. Louis, Missouri

Master Planning
Christian Hospital is a 485-bed acute care facility located in north St. Louis County and is part of the BJC Health Care system. As the demographics of St. Louis shifted over the years certain areas of the campus became underutilized while others needed growth opportunities.

A facility campus master plan was conducted with the following overall goal for the master planning process:

To create a facility platform tied to strategy that supports efficient clinical delivery in the context of competing needs and limited capital.

As part of the Visioning Session the approach to the project began by identifying and ranking priorities for the project:

High Priority
  • Incorporation of future technology into planning concepts
  • Clear bed demand definition, maximized private room capacity and standard layouts
  • Provided options for dealing with supply distribution campus-wide to improve efficiency and cost savings (bed storage, linen carts, medication carts, supplies, etc.)
  • Improved access for outpatient services - way finding internally & externally
